Marble is a metamorphic rock, formed when limestone or dolomite rock is subjected to tremendous heat and pressure. The characteristic swirls and veins of coloured marble varieties are usually due to various mineral impurities such as clay, silt, sand and iron oxides originally present as grains or layers in the limestone.
Marble comes in a wide variety of colours, some with great intensity of veining and patterning. Being more porous than granite, it is suitable for bathrooms, fireplaces and flooring, although some marbles can be used successfully as kitchen worktops. The home owner must be aware of the properties of marble and particularly for kitchen use we recommend that marble worktops are supplied in a honed or satin finish as this helps disguise scratches which marble will endure.
Some of the more popular marble colour’s which we can supply are Arabescato, Bianco Carrara, Calcatta, Crema Marfil, Emperador and Marron Imperial. If you have a specific marble colour requirement please call for further information on 01565 300065.
